Thulani Dlavana

thulani dlavana

Thulani was only 6 years when his mother noticed his interest in music, “my mother knew that I’m going far with music”, Thulz says. He grew up in Mdantsane with his mother and his grandparents where his grand father would make them listen to Jazz and Afropop as he (grandpa) was a fan.

His mother then went to work at Themba SDA School which was a boarding school, where he first sang in a quartet, singing first tenor. He was also involved in choirs singing alto, as he had a small voice. Thulz really liked the spot light so much that he formed his first quartet where he could be the only one singing first tenor.  “My life changed when I went to bethel College to do my high school” Thulani says as this was where he started to learn more about music and the art of singing. He later joined the three other members of the quartet and co-found the Advent 4. Thulani was the first person to conduct the youth choir in his church and since then it was stable choir which sand in all programs organised for the youth by the church.

Thulani leaves in his family house in Mdantsane, South Africa with his daughter, Siphokuhle. Thulani loves cooking and hosting visitors in his house and because of that he’s always in the kitchen whenever we are away from home for a project, he is our cook.
